Student Training for Placement
In JPIET, apart from the regular meal of technical knowledge we boost our student's health by giving them an extra supplementary. We make their career feast rich and nutritious by adding trainings like soft-skills, personality development, spoken English and business communication to it.
This well-to-do blend of hard and soft-skills by the veterans of academics and connoisseurs of industry carrying varied experience nurture the upcoming engineers so well that they are more renowned as experts in the corporate world than mere novices or fresher. Their proficiency is vouched by and their competence speaks volumes about their uprooting process.
To achieve this level they go through a rigorous and pain-staking training process which starts at the very budding stage i.e. in the first year, In the initial stages, we focus on motivating and giving direction to otherwise distracted or indolent youth. Parallel to this, communication classes are conducted as a part of academic curriculum. This way, the chiseling process starts. Motivational sessions by eminent personalities of the industry and thought-provoking sessions by internal facilitators help students choose a direction for themselves and hold light to their career. Business communication becomes the easy platform on which they stand and see the options available in front of them. None of these happen through lectures or theory classes but in either fully-equipped audio-video labs or interactive and fun-learning classroom sessions.
This acts as a concrete foundation to the subsequent years wherein the other facet of communication i.e. spoken English takes the charge. While the student is in second year, he is taught to interact in English at all levels. This unlike the usual English-speaking institutes doesn't claim of mastering the language in a couple of days but help the student create an English encouraging environment for himself. He is trained with globally-tested activities by nationally and internationally certified trainers. This continues in the successive semesters also till the time student starts understanding English and can confidently respond in such environment.
The graph below gives a clear picture of the skill development of students while they are graduating
As is clearly visible in the graph, in the initial formative years entire focus remains on development of foundation skills like attitude, business writing skills and spoken English which towards the final year alters an average student in a skilled and knowledgeable professional. At the later stages, i.e. in the pre-final and final year this meticulously cooked dish is topped and garnished with appropriate skills like personality development and soft-skills. They are groomed and their personality is enhanced. They are taught interview techniques and their group-discussion skills are sharpened. To quote an example, personality development classes are not in which students are simply told what to wear and what not to wear rather they are told much beyond that. Aspects like hygiene, gestures and postures are touched. Inner personality is discussed and their core introspected and channelized.
Trainings like interview - skills are not merely a set of questions to be crammed up and vomited out at the interviewer's desk. Rather it's a situation-based learning process in which the student is made to undergo and face all type of interview scenarios be it telephonic, online, one-to-one or panel. If required they are counseled not once but as many times as they want. Mock-interview sessions are conducted. Technical and non-technical knowledge is equally upgraded. Industry veterans share their experiences at this stage, tell them what to avoid and where to seek opportunities. Realistic data and stats are shared. In other words, each and every class becomes a step into the corporate world and by the time the students are in their last few months they are already habitual of the ways of the corporate world, their confidence speaks more than their words in interviews and their minds are well-focused.
To quote, father of one of our students recently returned to us offering gratitude. He said, "My son has become so confident that now while appearing in an interview he doesn't have to think about answers anymore instead he even knows what will be the next question."
